Sustainability & Materials
Sustainability & Materials
What our products are made of, where they come from, and how we think about our impact on the homes — and the world — around us.
We Use the Word Carefully
Sustainability is one of the most overused words in home retail. We prefer to be specific: here is what our products are made from, here is where the materials come from, and here is what we're still working on. No greenwashing, no vague commitments.
Our Wall Panels
Our signature product — and the one we know most about. Every panel is built from three layers, each chosen deliberately.
Natural Wood Veneer
The visible face of every Ashworth panel is real wood — a natural veneer sourced from responsibly managed forests. Each finish (Oak, Walnut, Grey Oak, Light Oak) is selected for grain consistency and quality. Because it's real wood, no two panels are identical. That's a feature, not a flaw.
MDF Core
Beneath the veneer sits a medium-density fibreboard core. MDF is one of the most efficient uses of wood fibre available — it's made from offcuts and processing by-products that would otherwise go to waste. Ours is formaldehyde-free and meets E1 European emissions standards.
Recycled Acoustic Felt Backing
The backing layer is made from recycled felt, typically repurposed from post-industrial textile waste. It reduces sound reverberation in the room and acts as a thermal buffer — two practical benefits that come from a material that would otherwise be discarded.
Across Our Collection
As we expand beyond wall panels, we apply the same principles to every product we select for the Ashworth range. Before anything reaches our shelves, we ask: what is it made from? How long will it last? Is it honest about what it is?
- We prioritise natural and recycled materials over synthetic alternatives wherever quality allows
- We avoid products that rely on visual trickery — laminates printed to look like wood, plastics painted to look like ceramic
- We favour suppliers with transparent supply chains and clear material certifications
- We are building long-term relationships with suppliers who share our standards, not just the lowest-cost options
Packaging
- All outer packaging is made from recycled cardboard — fully recyclable at kerbside
- We use paper-based void fill rather than polystyrene or bubble wrap
- Products are wrapped in recycled kraft paper, not single-use plastic
- We are working to eliminate all non-recyclable materials from our packaging by end of 2026
Longevity Is the Point
The most sustainable home product is one you don't replace. Fast interiors — trends that last two seasons, pieces that look tired in three years — create waste on a huge scale. We're not interested in that model.
Every product in the Ashworth collection is chosen to last. To look as good in ten years as it does today. To become part of a home, not a rotation through it.
